Empowerment Squared Charity Gala Featuring Lawrence Hill

Empowerment Squared’s 2017 Fundraising Gala will welcome over 500 caring citizens, community leaders, young professionals, and international guests to celebrate and support Empowerment Squared’s transformational work. The Gala will feature powerful stories of youth whose lives have been transformed through Empowerment Squared programs, inspiring speakers, live performances, and a silent auction, all capped by a night of dancing hosted by DJ Mahito of G98.7FM. The Gala is themed Global Citizens, recognizing that Empowerment Squared is creating empowerment opportunities in Canada and in Liberia based on the notion that we are all part of one humankind.

Keynote Speaker: Lawrence Hill 

Lawrence Hill is the author of ten books, including The Illegal and The Book of Negroes, winner of various awards including The Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and CBC Radio’s Canada Reads. He holds honorary doctorates from six Canadian universities, was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada, received the Governor General’s History Award and was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.
